I must admit I do not have much of a way with accessories. Simplicity always seems so much more appealing and much more "me". Of course I make an exception for delicate gold jewellery and in the last few days I've been taking tentative steps into ring territory too - with a thinner than thin gold ring from June Designs on Etsy and an equally skinny diamante rings from Accessorize.

But lately I seem unable to resist the charms of friendship bracelets. It started last summer when I discovered Lucy Folk, and is reignited on a nigh-on daily basis. I love how they look with delicate gold jewellery, piled two or three high, providing an unexpected pop of neon bright colour.

I like friendship bracelets set against a backdrop of simplicity - a grey marl t-shirt or cashmere jumper, jeans and ballet pumps or suede boots. This way I feel like I stay the right side of chic instead of straying into (whisper it) emo-gap-year-student territory.

THINGS I'M THINKING ABOUT

The bits and pieces that are currently skipping merrily around in my head. It's always interesting to make a note and see later down the line which were mere passing fancies, and which interests withstood the test of time. I don't think any of us are surprised at how fickle we can sometimes be when it comes to this kind of thing!

I must admit the ~~Missoni~~ Topshop bikini in the bottom right hand corner is already winging its way to me. Regular readers may know of my highfalutin Missoni swimwear ambitions, and this fits within them very nicely, at a fraction of the cost. Alongside the bikini I'm trying the little navy scalloped jacket. I fancy it might look rather chic with a slubby white tee, and light denim.

The quest for delicate jewellery continues in earnest - the latest designs making the short list feature the hamsa and evil eyes - they'd be perfect for summer evenings. (Is it that time yet?!)

TRAINERS WITH THE POWER TO DO BAD THINGS TO GOOD PEOPLE (POSSIBLY)

It does the soul good to obsess compulsively from time to time.

Going through picture after picture of your latest squeeze, viewing it from every single tiny angle possible.

Hones the eye don't you think? Sieves out the non-starters, allows for refinement and ample time to revel in purchases that are NEVER. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.

We all know that to which I refer. A a certain pair of ridiculous trainers with a certain in-built wedge.

They fall within that sort of inexplicable 'I think I might have to have those or I'll collapse' category. They make very little sense. If someone had said to me: 'Olivia - how d'ya fancy a wedged trainer in your wardrobe? VB looked pretty snazzy that time she wore a pair to hit the first ball at a baseball match didn't she?' I would have issued nothing less than a withering, withering glance in their direction. Such an idea sounds positively rank.

And yet, and yet... Here we all are, desperate to make sense of our sudden desire for exactly such a shoe. (and Mrs Beckham is probably barely containing an 'I told you so'.)

I'm not a fan of the bigger Marant sneakers - whilst I very much enjoy seeing them on Miranda Kerr et al - I wonder if they exist in a territory and time zone that only the long and very willowy of leg should dare stray.

I prefer the more casual look of the Betty (above), it somehow feels more genuinely Marant-esque than the other bigger, bolder designs it sitsalongside. I particularly love the way the laces bunch up at the front - doing all that 'effortless' work for the wearer.

However. It is the side-on view that raises concerns for me. Can't argue with the front - but the side... worries me. It can look a little... chunky, no?

To illustrate this point I'm going to use Emma Watson:

See how the shoes look PERFECT from the front, but a little wrong from the side? Or is it just me?

GOING DOTTY

Ever since I saw Laura of WITblog in her forest green dotty Topshop trousers in Paris, I was pretty despeardo to get my hands on a pair too. Sadly I failed, as did many others, and it was only last week that our prayers were answered with a new version in classic navy.

Being rather vertically challenged, I was worried they would be too long, not that perfectly chic cropped length I was after. But they're just right, falling at the ankle and sitting high on the waist - which is exactly what I was after.

Being so pleased with my snazzy new purchase, I responded to Laura's tweet asking for pictures from readers of her blog in their Topshop dots and was so pleased to be featured on her blog alongside other WIT fans looking lovely in their new trousers.

I think I shall be wearing this outfit for a friend's birthday supper and drinks in a couple of weeks. It's a nice mix of casual and a little something special:

HELLO ANYA

I thought I should share one of my favourite Christmas/Birthday presents (yes my birthday falls but three days after Christmas and folk do like to combine the presents - woe is me).

Because I now have to split my time between London and Devon I decided it would be jolly lovely to ease the transition with be-a-u-tiful travel accessories. I therefore dropped festive hints accordingly, as you do.

This is the best wash bag going - brilliantly roomy (much bigger than you would think) with trademark organisational pockets on the inside.

It means I can now throw my whole bathroom in without having to painstakingly funnel each and every product into mini plastic bottles before leaving the house.

There were also a few lovely products in my Christmas stocking which will also find their way into the new wash bag of dreams.

NOW IS THE TIME FOR KNITS (AND NOVELTY KNITS)

I make no secret of my love for jumpers (and I haven't even seen The Killing. Imagine if I had?!).

Truth be told it might just be getting out of hand, but this matters not. They are brilliant. Below are but a few from my vast collection currently doing the rounds.

THE 1ST OF DECEMBER CAN MEAN ONLY ONE THING

The start of advent must means it is officially acceptable to air ones Christmas wish list.

I have been tinkering with mine, adding and subtracting little bits and pieces for ooo... about a month now. It is quite possibly the best distraction there is.

So here she is, a happily endless work in progress:

Of course it is a mix of the desperately-hoped-for and the never-going-to-happen (Mulberry Lily that's you I'm afraid).

But I always love the idea of amassing beautiful new toiletries, pretty dresses, cozy knits, a brilliant box set and a trip to the theatre (my boyfriend has a penchant for musicals...).

I'm very much hoping for a beautiful floral quilt to appear under the tree this year - I love the vintage look of Au Maison's quilts - they're an affordable investment and look like the kind of thing you would have in your family for years.

Of course no festive season is complete without a few sequins, (this year they might come in the shape of Zara's brilliant gold ballet pump) and a new season scent - courtesy of Paris based James Heeley's Menthe Fraiche.

This entry will most likely mark me out as something of a brat - but never fear, despite my long list I'm mostly looking forward to The Muppets' Christmas Carol, turkey, stuffing, Christmas pudding and cake, The Rat Pack's jazz CD, champagne and tying everything within reach in gingham ribbon.

What is on your Christmas list this year? I assure you it isn't too early. :)

THREE'S A CROWD

...I know I shouldn't be saying this, nor thinking this, nor going anywhere near my computer to silently type about this...

But I must. I am in love (again) with this beautiful little fellow.

Hello Lover

There's just something so appealing about her. She's coquettish, content, happy-go-lucky, devil may care, and somehow manages to look to me like she's spent more than a little time skipping through the streets of Paris.

And did I mention I've always been a fan of the Lily? (dubious about Mulberry quality of late I must admit, but such issues pale into insignificance now).

At first I thought it was black suede - I could take that - but oh no. Nothing so obvious would be at work here. It is (of course) an utterly wondrous midnight blue - that never-bettered bed fellow of grey and denim. Be still my beating heart.

Perhaps it is a passing fancy (the fluttering in my chest would certainly point to such a conclusion) but I'm in those first heady days of a possible new dalliance, and I am beginning to believe such a pretty bag would make everything just that little bit rosier.

The worst of it is, I'm only just newly wedded to my current bag - a beautifully, perennially cool black Balenciaga number. Now that is a long term love affair that will last through the years. There was no fluttering heart when I purchased my City - just a calm certainty. (Don't worry I will cease and desist talking about bags like they matter a jot in just a second).

But I have often thought - conveniently I'll admit - that a gal needs more than one bag. (Three would be plain gauche, but two? Two strikes the right note don't ya think?) So this gal I speak of needs a burst of fun sometimes, a boost, to make her feel light of heart and young again.

My City does so much, and with such quiet, self-assured grace, but to skip off and kick up my heels with Lily every now and then, to throw caution to the wind and be foolish and fancy free... now that would be a delight.

JUST TO SAY...

I did make it back from holiday in one piece! My holiday has seemingly extended into a bit of a blogging holiday, which was not my intention. Time has just run away from me of late.

There have been a number of changes recently - new season, new career aspirations, new-ish home (more of which in my next post). So all has been a little hectic - too hectic to put pen to paper - keyboard to blog if you will - let alone coordinate any nice outfits or outfit observations to share with you. A thousand apologies. :)

So in the mean time I wanted to record a few images from my holiday (as inappropriate as it is now we're racing towards Halloween and the like!!)

It was truly lovely - beautiful weather after the first thundery day and landing during a thunderstorm no less...

MY OPTIONAL EXTRAS

I'm going to have to back pedal just a bit, because, I'm afraid I'm going on my holidays. That's right, my summer holiday is coming just as everyone else is dusting off their winter coat and planning their new Autumn wardrobes.

Perhaps then this entry will be something a little different (a little late I hear you say), and perhaps evoke a nice hazy nostalgia for the season that is most definitely belting out its swan song, at full volume, as I type.

I mentioned my favourite Greek summer destination here, and this is where I shall be heading in the wee small hours of Monday morning. I'm hoping against hope that the weather holds, and it will all be sea, swimming, tavernas, retsina, G&Ts, and glorious hours whiled away reading a good or trashy novel (both are welcome, I won't lie).

My chosen reads for this holiday: The Road by Cormac McCarthy, One Day by David Nicholls, Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes (I spy a trashy read...)

There are a few things that will always take up precious EasyJet space when packing for a summer trip: a black bikini, a white cotton cover up, black Havianas, a panama hat, raw edge denim shorts, easy jersey - you get my drift. But I thought it would be nice to share a few of the extra things that I'm looking forward to including this year.

I always want a little more colour in my holiday wardrobe - to add some pizazz, if you will, to my grey jersey, blue denim and simple ballet pumps. What you wear in the city just feels a little bit wrong on holiday. A little bit buttoned up, thought out, stiff. I find there has to be a new ease, a certain freedom, and an element of fun.

When carefully chosen, colourful elements are added to a clean simple wardrobe, it seems to make for the prefect summer transformation.

Here are a few examples of the coloured and printed bits and pieces which I'll be taking to Greece alongside my usual clothes this year:

(As a side note, I must admit I have been struggling ALL summer to find that glorious every occasion summer dress. One that is easy and breezy, pretty and stylish, that you don't have to worry one jot about - you take it out of your suitcase and it does everything it needs to do. No fuss. At long last, I have found my dress just in time. It is a lovely floral number from Topshop and when I showed it to my boyfriend, his first response, his oh so precious, unprompted response was thus: "It's very Mama Mia isn't it?" (reference: film version, Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried). You may laugh, but this is exactly the what I was after.)

So my holiday wardrobe is shaping up to look a little something like this:

WHEN AUTUMN LEAVE START TO FALL

Ok ok, so it is not quite that time just yet, but a gal can dream.

As you might know by now, I am a winter gal through and through. I try to be a summer dresser but it doesn't come naturally to me. Crisp Autumns and icy Winters - seasons such as these are more my bag.

With this in mind, I have started thinking about what I'd like to be bundled up in this winter, and it looks a little something like this, so far:

Knitwear: Acne, Etoile Isabel Marant, Theory, Topshop, Ballet Pumps: Repetto, Ankle Boots: Sam Edelman and Ugg, Topshop Leather Skinnies, Citizens of Humanity Jeans, APC Wallet, Balenciaga black City

I am becoming nigh on obsessed with chunky knits - precisely the type made for the aforementioned bundling. Topshop are doing some lovely ones which are in-store now. On the pricier scale Acne's navy angora sweater ticks all the boxes (in her style bible ((can we call it that?)) Ines de la Fressange nods encouragingly towards the longevity of navy knits - which is so much more than good enough for me). Theory's Aran knit is be-a-u-tiful, but with a price tag that is sadly making my eyes water more than I'd like.

The leather skinnies and classic wash jeans explain themselves, as do the black and nude Repettos (such items have time and time again worked hard all winter), but I fear my inclusion of those fur lined little devils at the bottom of the shoe row might have you nudging your mouse towards the 'un-follow' button on bloglovin. Bear with me, I have not lost my marbles.

I remember the unadulterated joy I felt when I had my first and only pair of chestnut short Uggs. Oh I was suddenly Sienna Miller, and all was right with the world. My feet were, of course, utterly toasty and when the snow came the grip on the thick sole saw me chuckling at the other girls slipping and sliding on icy pavements whilst I strode confidently on.
Yes, when I pulled them on last winter the smug feeling was still there, but there was a little bit of shame to boot. I didn't want people to think I thought I was chic wearing them - I was simply being practical. They are very good boots and they deserve their place in a winter wardrobe. My loyalty to them has not waned, despite their fall from stylish grace. But do you know what? As I get older I would rather be the wise owl in the boots than the painfully cool 'fashionista' with a broken hip.
This winter though, I will be choosing the mini boot - the shortest incarnation of the classic Ugg - which I think can slip away unnoticed, and do the job it does so well, but quietly. I'd be interested to see what you think of this confession! Have you found a good alternative to Ugg-type boots?

Sam Edelman's Petty boots are a lovely shape, with a heel height that is just right. I found myself wearing black ankle boots day in and out last Autumn & Winter and did so in some very uncomfortable and somewhat ugly ones from Zara. I shall not be making the same mistake again. I'm getting much better now at identifying the items that I wear over and over during a season, that provide the building blocks in a wardrobe, and investing accordingly where it is wise to.

You may have noticed a coat is missing at this point - not an oversight on my part, but just a 'to be continued' if you will. Try as I might I cannot get an image of the black bouclé coat from IRO that I pledged my loyalty to back in the Spring. As soon as I can, it will of course be duly added in to my wardrobe planning for the coming big chill.

BEAUTY-FULL

After my recent trip to France, I promised a post on the spoils of my pharmacy visits, and thought it would be nice to include the rest of my skincare products - of which, I must admit, there are rather a few...

My somewhat chaotic bathroom cabinet shelf featuring French Pharmacy must-haves, Kiehl's, Aesop, Dermalogica, Clinique, Yu-Be, Bliss and Eve Lom

I spent nearly a whole day in France mapping out the pharmacies one town had to offer and then dragging my boyfriend from one to the next, to the next, to the next until I had what I had set out to make mine. I, like many others I know, had been utterly done by Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop post on the french pharmacy. The brilliance of certain french beauty products have been well known by beauty enthusiasts, and luckily for us common folk, they are all readily available in nearly every town and village pharmacy around France. I suppose the French have a better approach to skincare, and understand the importance of being able to stockpile a product that works.

On my visit I secured the following: Bioderma Crealine TS H20 Micelle Soultion, Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate and Avibon Vitamin A cream (we struggled to locate this one at first ((yes that's right, by this point my boyfriend was on board and fully committed to the challenge)) and had to ask the pharmacist in broken french for this magical cream).

The Bioderma make-up remover was just as good as all the reviews promised, instantly dissolving the hardiest of eye make up in a few sweeps, and removing my remaining facial make up too. I must say I don't go particularly heavy on the make up, so can't attest to how well this would work on more heavy duty make up - but it is perfect for me. It doesn't sting in the least and is very effective whilst not irritating sensitive skin.

I use Embryolisse in the morning after my toner and underneath my tinted moisturiser. It is not heavy despite being quite thick, and the idea is it is hydrating the skin, cleaning it, and providing the perfect base for make-up. I hear the professionals swear by it, and that's good enough for me! It can even double up as a make-up remover too. It's slotted into my routine really well, replacing my normal moisturiser with great results. I now need to ensure I have a high SPF in my tinted moisturiser, but this is easily achieved.

Avibon is definitely one for the evening - it has a very thick, vaseline like texture, so unless you like the shiny look - steer clear for the day! It is packed full of vitamin A and has quite the anti-ageing reputation. I think it will come to the fore during the winter for me - it feels intensely hydrating when a blob is mixed with a normal moisturiser and slathered on before bed.

I'm really pleased with my french additions to my bathroom cabinet - I'm always keen to try products that have earned their cult following over the years and are still going strong. These are not flash in the pan products and have well and truly earned their effectiveness stripes. I won't lie, I also love how their names are whispered amongst women and that you have to travel to make them yours - no flashy ad campaigns needed.

Whilst we're taking skin-care, I have to mention my new discovery: Aesop. Yes I am hideously late to the party and know beauty enthusiasts have been enthusing about this brand for yonks, but I have only recently been won over by the Australian botanical-based beauty products. For years and years I have been a Clinique 3-step girl, and I still stand by the effectiveness of the regime. But on a recent trip to Aesop I was given a bundle of samples based on my skin type and needs, and in less than two days I was hooked. My skin somehow appears more refined, and has a glow to it in the mornings that it didn't have before. (I know this sounds somewhat corny, but I promise it's true!)

Aesop products and Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel (a godsend for unsightly blemishes!)

I raided my piggy bank to add 3 products to my shelf, but in the fullness of time hope to add their Fabulous Face Oil to my regime. For the time being I am reaping the benefits of the Fabulous Face Cleanser, Purifying Facial Exfoliating Paste and Parsley Seed Anti Oxidant Serum. I cannot recommend my experience with Aesop products highly enough and would urge you to get hold of a few samples to try out for yourself.

A STELLA SUMMER

I'm not great with the sales. Yes they fill me with that nice sense of anticipation, they quicken the beat of my heart when I fear I've missed out or might only just have got there in time. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty of a purchase, I can't block out those rather useful sale-wisdom quotes that everyone wheels out at this time of year.

"Would I have bought this at full price?"

"Would I rather spend this money on this, or on something I've spotted for the new season?"

"Is this even actually my size?!"

Questions like these whizz relentlessly around my head and I always end up erring on the side of caution and returning the bag/shoes/dress/top to the rail.

I already have my eye on a few bits for Autumn/Winter (from IRO, Maje, Etoile Isabel Marant and some ankle boots from Sam Edelman), so the necessity of saving the pennies for these has ensured, thus far, that I'm uninterested in discounted wares.

That was until I booked a last minute summer holiday to Greece for September. We have been going to the same small village in Corfu nearly every summer since the year dot - and it's my most favourite summer holiday destination ever. It simply involves stacks of new books, swimming in the sea, sitting in the sun and then eating the tastiest Greek food in the local taverna, all washed down with cheap and cheerful Retsina, only to do it all again the next day.

With flights booked, suddenly summer was back on the agenda and the crisp leaves of autumn seemed rather a long way away.

Step up the Stella McCartney sale. If ever I was to give away my precious pounds to sale buys, it would have to be for something classic. Bar the citrus fruit print bits (I know bright fruit prints are de rigueur at the moment, but I'm not sure how much more mileage those banana earrings have in them...), you can't go wrong with the longevity of a classic, quiet, Stella McCartney item in your wardrobe.

These summer sandals are just the thing, and after a windfall on eBay, I bit the bullet and ordered them. They are simple, classic, relaxed yet have a really polished look to them. I love a classic red nail varnish peeping out from under the raffia too.

We stayed at Les Jardins de Saint Benoit in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, just over half an hour or so from Narbonne.

MY CLASSIC 10

About a zillion years ago... (yes I have been absent for too long) Miss Sophie so kindly tagged me to put forward my classic 10, following her own brilliant post which you can see here. I have at last got my act together and have tried to put forwards the 10 elements that I rely upon in my wardrobe, and paint the clearest picture of my closet.

Beaten up but enduringly perfect. I can't imagine ever stopping buying Converses, enjoying them particularly with my 7/8ths jeans at the mo!

Essie nail varnishes, all variations on the same shade of colour, pinks to classic reds. I mostly stick to a red shade, but if I feel in need of a jazzing up change, I veer towards a shocking pink. I'm rarely ever without painted nails

Pinkish to red lipsticks (noticing a pattern here?!): Chanel & Nars. Lipsticks are rather a new thing for me, but I'm learning to utilise them as an accessory more and more often these days

It has been an interesting challenge, because I found as I tried to put my 10 together I had to keep thinking about possible elements - they didn't all spring forwards with ease. This is, I suppose, both a positive and a negative thing. Positive, in that I didn't come up with millions of pieces and categories to have to whittle down to 10, so my wardrobe and my approach to dressing is not overcrowded. Negative, in that there were bits that I always mark out as key components of the kind of wardrobes I have long admired, and I found out, with a bit of surprise, that not at all of these were present or well represented in my wardrobe. I think namely these come in the form of those prefect few dresses, non-jean trousers (something crisp, yet effortless), more delicate gold jewellery and friendship style bracelets piled up on your arm, and the perfect white tee. (Between you and I, I think I might have stumbled across it today - will feed back about that anon!) I also need to up the ante on my ballet flats. I have LOADS, but I'm keen to invest in some high quality fellows - French Sole, Repetto or... Chanel?! Ha.

Overall though I feel these photographs and glimpses into my wardrobe sum me up very well. I love simplicity (simple tops, classic and chic footwear) combined with dashes of the unexpected - a colourful lip, a patterned silk jacket, all set against a groomed back drop. Shiny, effortless hair, a flick of eyeliner, clear skin (whenever possible!) and a subtle, lovely perfume. That's the aim anyway!

Just a quick entry to say I'm sorry for my brief blogging holiday! I'm afraid of late I haven't been particularly inspired to post about things, and have been rather distracted having finished one job and planning what is next. It is quite the all consuming question!

SPRING / SUMMER

It's been gloriously spring (even summer) like during the last few days in London. And it's got me to thinking about my summer wardrobe.

I’ve never found summer dressing easy. I suppose the problem is I know what I’d like it to be, and somehow, more often than not, I seem to miss the mark.

As I’ve said on many occasions before, I love easy, effortless summer dressing. The kind of clothes that go hand in hand with a healthy tan, that speak of road trips, balmy nights, sea-tousled hair and sun-warmed skin. I tend to look pale, slightly wilted and like the sun and are just long lost acquaintances that have never felt comfortable on first name terms.

I’m not sure how much of this is to do with having very fair skin that refuses to tan, and being the type of girl who is not willing to cover every inch of my in high maintenance fake tan to achieve the desired look. I’ve flirted with the idea of a very, very light spray tan – but I have visions of emerging orange and foolish.

When I bemoan my tan-less state, I’m often told I have that classic ‘English Rose’ colouring and that it suits me down to the ground. I put it to you that this could be the case because they’ve never known me look any other way. :)

Is it this fair skin that lends me my air of anti-summerness? It may simply all be in my head. Either way if one is pale and proud, (which to a certain extent I am), then one has to accept that skin requires a lot more maintenance come the summer months. A tan can hide a multitude of sins, and without this cover you have to keep up a strict regime of exfoliation and moisturisation! (I feel a summer beauty post coming on.)

Skin shade aside, I think the clothes can often be a problem too. I am always on the look-out for structured shorts and skirts of a certain length – they must be lined, not see through and not show off more of my bottom than public decency allows. This is not as easy as it seems. The majority of shorts in my usual haunts are unlined hot pants – structured, slightly longer short seems to be a rarity. I don’t like feeling over exposed – and to be honest it is rare that it is hot enough to necessitate this.

I don’t find holiday dressing difficult – when temperatures soar and you’re in another country, off duty, it is much easier. But at work, and in the city, on a normal week day, there are certain standards to be observed, don’t you find? And so often you see people who get a whiff of warm weather and break out their summer holiday clothes, and these just aren’t quite appropriate somehow. Perhaps I’m too strict. :)

My summer wardrobe staples would be made up of pieces like the above – silk round neck (scoop neck at a push) t-shirts, and silk vests in muted colours, grey marl t-shirts, aforementioned shorts, lighter weight trousers in place of jeans, a selection of sandals and a pair each of nude and black ballet pumps. I love lightweight but cosy jumpers over the top too when things get chilly – either that or a light boulcé jacket for a smarter look. And bags – in an ideal world, the BEAUTIFUL moss green Balenciaga bag would work a treat, as well as a smaller day bag where necessary (a Mulberry Lily might fit the bill).

I find that with my summer wardrobe I have to be much more strict, because I am less confident with it. I have to know exactly what I have, what outfits each piece forms part of. It becomes a lot more like style Sudoku if you will! I don’t think this is the death knell to creativity that it may appear, but just the way I find works best for me during the summer months.

I think the majority of my sense of style most probably comes from others. It is a strange thing to admit I suppose and reading that sentence back I've decided it warrants more exploration.

I do have a sense of style, and personal style too - I'm sure of that. Yet I take most of my inspiration from people whose style I admire; on blogs, on the street, at work and so on. I know without a doubt the things I like and don't like, the pieces I am drawn to instantly, and likewise, those I'll never want to wear, and yet, and yet... more often that not, the starting point for my style comes from others.

How I admire those rare creatures who are stylish down to the bone - who take note of, but require no sartorial cues. Theirs is a skill that is innate, not imitated. It is ageless, timeless, seasonless and (though a clumsy word) fashionless. I think they are rarer breed than we all might think.

With this in mind I think the best way to explain it is that whilst my personal style is at the core of how I dress - it is mailable and open to influence from a sudden inspiration. I may see an image, a cut of trouser, a colourful collar, and these details appeal to a facet of my sense of style - they become something I want to incorporate into my style because it feels me, or perhaps even who I aspire to be?

It doesn't have to be classed as an imitation then, but perhaps more as an incorporation. This could all be rambling nonsense, a verbose cloak for what is essentially lack of originality and copy-cat style - but I don't think so. It's an openness to timeless striking style that appeals to such a degree that you let it come along with you and become, for however long (a season or a lifetime), a part of you. I am still hugely picky and over the years can be won over less and less by hype and fast fashion (I still have my weaknesses: the PS11 being one, but let's cough conveniently over that).

This is all utterly wonderful, but I suppose in this admission to open minded style, one has to steer clear of that tricky road where upon you lose yourself and dress up as another person altogether.

I don't think I'll go down that fateful road - I'd be all to aware I was only ever an impostor. :)

On that note, when I have duly explained myself, the two beautiful gals in the photos above have made me long for that elusive IM boucle jacket and those enduringly chic Chanel ballet flats. I am inspired by them, and that, as they say, is that.

WHAT I WOULD BE WEARING

North Face jacket, Saint James tees, J brand Agnes trousers, Diptyque Baies candle and L'Ombre dans L'eau perfume, Hunter wellies

Cooped up in the office today whilst the sun shone outside, I was desperate to be out and about in the great outdoors, far away from London town.

The exact place I wanted to be, and had in my mind's eye, was at the Lake District cottage my boyfriend and I discovered in November.

It was (without any exaggeration) just the most absolutely lovely place to spend a week, and one of my favourite holidays (stay-cations if you will).

The cottage surpassed our expectations born from the photographs provided online and it was just utterly idyllic. Long walks followed by pub meals by an open fire, before scuttling back to the cottage and lighting another fire and settling down to a film from the huge dvd library at our disposal. Simple and pretty darn perfect.

So, if I could - this is what I'd be wearing today. A mix of city-dweller takes to the countryside essentials, and luxurious extras from Diptyque. And this is where I'd wear it:

THEORY JUMPER

Just a hasty mini-post to document the jump of the Theory jumper I blogged about recently from the page to my person.

I gave in and made it mine a week or two ago and have been enjoying wearing it immensely.

A thousand apologies for the sea sickness-inducing, poor quality photograph, I'm afraid my photographer is feeling a little under the weather and I can't help thinking he didn't put his all into this shot! :) (Not to mention it being taken at the end of a long day for me too.)

I hope it gives a rough idea of how the jumper looks on though - I'll endeavour to post more photos in the future to show the cut at the back and so on. It really is a lovely jumper, both the style and the fabric.

IN MY BAG

My 3.1 Phillip Lim Edie Bow bag

I'm afraid that I, unlike so many others who do posts of this sort, have not been urged by others to divulge the inner workings of my bag - I just thought I would.

Above is my bag, that I have had now for about a year I think. I bought it after stalking it around the globe - decorating the shoulders of Rachel Bilson and Diane Kruger.

The leather is absolutely beautiful, thick yet very supple. Having worn it nearly every day since buying it, it still looks as perfect as the day it emerged out of it's Net-a-Porter black box.

I must admit I did edit out about a gazillion crumpled receipts, that were lingering in and around every corner, and pulled out just the normal things.

So were you to raid my bag tomorrow you would find:

- My iPod - I have yet to use the iPod function on my iPhone - I tend to be a bit behind with these things!

- My iPhone - with it's pink polka dot Cath Kidston cover on. What can I say, it's a stylish so and so and demands its own stylish threads.

- Travel card

- Champagne cork - I'm not sure if other people do this, but in my family on a special occasion we keep the champagne cork and push a coin into it. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be lucky, or simply serve as a momento, but I like it. This one is from my last birthday and has for some reason found a home in my handbag, which I also rather like.

- Diptyque solid perfume in Eau Duelle - such a handy size for a handbag! And a lovely vanilla fragrance.

- My current read - Risotto with Nettles: A Memoir with Food by Anna Del Conte. I love food based books and sought this one out after Nigella Lawson mentioned it on one of her early programmes. It's a lovely book peppered with recipes throughout. I'm about half way through now and find it such a calming, interesting read.

- Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick in Cambon and Nars lipstick in Red Lizard - I rarely touch up my make-up during the day, except if I'm wearing lipstick. I'm rather new to lipsticks and these are the only two shades I own at the moment. I'm taking them everywhere currently!

- Mason Pearson hairbrush - a mini version of the bigger one I have at home. Without a doubt the best hairbrushes around.

- Creme de la Mer lip balm - I rediscovered this recently. I originally bought in on a rare 'feeling flush' day whilst at university and found it lurking in an ankle boot in my wardrobe a few weeks ago. Most strange, but a very happy rediscovery - it's a brilliant balm and a great base for lipsticks.

- Chewing gum - just because!

- Miu Miu wallet - I bought this in the Spring/Summer sales. I knew it wasn't going to last very long and it has already begun to show signs of wear at the corners (and I can't really fit coins in it) but it was love at first sight and until it falls apart entirely I'm sure we will be very happy together.

- My keys - this mini Bayswater key ring came free when I bought my Alexa and funnily enough it's stuck around longer than the bag! (I sold my Alexa recently).

- Tom Ford Cary sunglasses - Spring seems to have been periodically popping its head around of late, so after months of dark and dreary weather, my shades have taken their rightful place back in my bag. They're a lovely shape - a sort of more cat-eyed version of the ubiquitous Wayfarer. I sought them out after spying them on Kate Bosworth (yes I do gravitate to everything Bosworth-related!)

WHAT I'D LIKE TO BE WEARING

I am being a bit of a dullard I admit, not posting my actual outfit photo from today and instead putting together a much better one that I'd have worn if only such things were possible.

The good thing about this though is it's not complete fantasy. I own 4 items in this wonderous selection and so have built around them - maintaing a very vague hint of realism. Calm yourself, I haven't managed to get the PS11 in my clutches yet; such a feat would warrant more than a casual collage I assure you. The pieces of this particular puzzle I already have in my wardrobe are: the Topshop leather leggings and Alex Monroe pea pod gold bracelet and on my dressing table (read in my bathroom cupboard) - Nars Red Lizard lipstick and Diptyque Eau Duelle solid perfume.

But it is the jumper that is really the beating heart of this whole outfit. It is a cashmere mix waffle knit by Theory. It may look deceptively simple, but don't be fooled. See the careful cut - lower around the back, higher at the front? Seams that ensure a certain nonchalance by falling after the natural line of the shoulder? And lastly, the narrow arms, nipping in cleanly at the wrist? Oh it is a basics masterpiece.

It is rare that I look at something on the hanger and think - you're pretty perfect, utterly understated, and would be unfailingly hard working. We all know how strong basics can create and maintain a wardrobe for years and years, yet sometimes I find myself unwilling to spend money on them because, I suppose, they just aren't exciting enough to part with the pounds.

I find myself pouring over blogs that focus on the necessity of basics, luxe or otherwise - and they speak to me in a way trend-led blogs simply don't anymore, and have undoubtedly encouraged me to shop in a more considered way. This jumper speaks to me in the same way.

I appear to be hearing Fashion Voices. :)

When I pass a rail the 'must have' item warrants less talk time - the quiet, classic ones earn repeat visits and careful consideration. I'm not immune to hype - far from it, but hype or not, I spend more time considering these days, and, more often that not, the momentary hyperventilation quickly passes.

How do you feel about the basics-debate? Do they form the heart of your wardrobe? Do you always focus more on luxury basics to last a lifetime or fall hard and fast for those seasonal trend-led items? ...Or... can there be a happy medium?

NEW JUMPER

Here is a little fellow I felt VERY pleased indeed to come across on eBay.

I quietly stalked it, smiled that smug one-sided smile one does at your cleveness in finding it in the face of the apparent lack of interest in it, and got quite the adrenaline rush placing a daringly last minute bid to make it mine a week ago, much to my boyfriend's amusement.

But, for all this, when it arrived I was forced to admit it wasn't quite right. My black wool APC jumper with anchor buttons is a size XS and fits exactly how I'd want it to. But this striped, merino wool and cashmere number is a small and yet, sadly, turned out to be exactly that - a little too small.

I had to force myself to accept that this triumphant purchase just wasn't meant to be. Truth be told I felt a small sort of glow somewhere inside at my new found maturity - accepting that when things just aren't right you should let them go. (Yes, yes this deeply spiritual exploration - all born from a jumper purchse - who'd have thought it?)

I shall be returning the jumper from whence it came - eBay, but if you are at all interested in giving it a good home before I do, just let me know!

KIMONO

This colourful silk kimono jacket is one of my favourite items.

It feels a little bit out there and somewhat different for me - but I've always loved vintage-look pieces as part of a simple outfit.

I find the best way to wear this is in a laid back, very simple way - with a grey t-shirt, black skinny jeans and black ballet pumps. I hope it works.

The jacket flows beautifully, so in real life has much more movement than you perhaps get a feel for from these photos. Regardless, I wanted to share it, it's an outfit I love.

I bought it on one of those days when you're struck by sudden inspiration - you recognise the item isn't part of your usual style, but you're irresistibly drawn to it. Of course it's important to keep yourself in check upon such occasions, otherwise you can end up buying all manner of bizarre things that felt so right and fun at the time, but end up abandoned at the back of your wardrobe, mocked by all your other clothes. But sometimes (and on this occasion I did) you have to allow yourself to be taken over by these moments and let your style instincts take over!

Luckily this kimono hasn't suffered the back-of-my-wardrobe fate - I wore it the night I bought it to meet friends I hadn't seen for months, and it felt perfect.

IRO JACKETS

I really like French label IRO's jackets. They have that air of Parisian cool in spades, and felt perfect for me when I was lusting after all the Isabel Marant jackets from seasons past.

So sorry for the poor quality pictures - my photographer is having his day off today!

These jackets are cut so well, with lovely narrow arms. For SS11 IRO have done a few leather jackets - I've yet to try them but if the cut of these is anything to go by they'd probably be rather special!

I kept the raw-edge navy blue one with slight metallic threading, but took back the grey/white one as the shoulders were slightly off where they should have been on me!

Will post more outfit pics of this jacket soon to show it to you properly!

Perfect floral offerings make up a large proportion of their perfumes. From woody, oriental, sweet and subtly spicy mixes, they are all utter delights. For Spring we’d recommend both Blanche and Tulipe. Described as ‘simple in structure but extreme in character’, Blanche is based on the colour white. With white rose, violet, neroli and peony it is a truly clean yet captivating bouquet, perfect for Spring. While Blanche is a strong contender, Tulipe takes the top prize for the ultimate seasonal scent. As one of the first flowers to open in the new season the Tulip symbolises the rebirth of spring for Byredo perfumer Ben Gorham. Top notes of freesia, cyclamen and rhubarb dry down to blonde woods and vetiver, encasing the delicate single heart note of Tulip. WHAT I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS WEEK

These collages from Polyvore are going to become a regular feature I feel. I spotted one over at Mommy Style - (S's one is much better than mine - titles and everything!) and resolved to try it out. They're a brilliant tool to be able to keep track of those pieces you lust after and want to keep close at hand for obsessive referencing.

So often I might have a burning desire for this bag or that top, and then quickly forget about it, highlighting that it was never something I really wanted in the first place.

All of the above are things I am keeping an eye on at the moment - except for the boots which I already own but I still think about nigh on non stop!

I'm try to dress in a classic way - simple, classic style has always been what I have admired most in other people and what I feel best in when I manage to get it right. I think this type of dressing improves as the years go by unless your born with an innate, minimalist aesthetic as some lucky folks are.

I always love a carefully placed edge to classic staples though - an unexpected bright lip, neon nail or beautiful piece of jewellery. My aim is to build up classic staples - then have fun with little pieces of something different, that add a dash of something fresh if the mood takes me.

Tom Binn's bright jewellery appeals to me a great deal because of this. The pieces are a nice way to incorporate all the neon colours I love seeing at the moment but sadly cannot embrace head to toe. I've loved seeing colour blocking and bright colour popping (what a dreadful sentence!) from Natalie at Canned Fashion, but I know it's something I could never pull off.

PS11

Yes, I think it is fair to say that this beautiful photograph by Garance Doré has helped nurture my growing obsession with the PS11.

I wonder why I always do this – notice a photo here, a photo there, of a beautiful bag, and then when I start those few tentative clicks to find out the designer, if it is too ‘It’, how much of a hole it will burn into my bank balance… it disappears off the face of the earth. Only to reappear every now and then, mocking me with it’s lack of availability.

The exact same thing happened with the Edie Bow Bag, I thought it the loveliest bag I’d ever clapped eyes on, with just that right amount of edge. I tracked it down to Colete, but was alas, too late. Then one morning, with no warning it appeared on Net-A-Porter. I had spend months trying to track it down, staring misty-eyed at photos of Rachel Bilson with hers, and there it was. I panicked about the price naturally, and that moment of indecision cost me – it sold out that morning. But we all know how the story ends (if you don’t click here) – the customer service team saved me and the bag was mine.

I compare many a purchase to that experience – I’d been thinking about it for so long, that when the opportunity arose, I was pretty damn certain I had to buy it. It was no impulse purchase that’s for sure.

Anywho – back to the PS11. The same thing is happening with this little fellow. I yearn for it in the saddle brown, as in the photo above, but it’s available in the black on NAP here. The quality of the leather looks perfect, it’s beautifully discreet (no names anywhere except the silver embossing under the flap), with that perfect mix that gets me every time - achingly cool and utterly classic.

SPRING CLEAN

Recently I have become mildly obsessed with the quest for the perfect new bed linen. I think it has all to do with Spring - making the flat feel fresh with crisp linen and beautiful throws that are at home with the colourful daffodils, hyacinths and tulips that I keep bringing home and having to haphazardly arrange in any spare jugs and pots.

My quest thus far (for it is nothing short of a quest I can tell you) has seen me settle on the White Company and Velvet Ribbon as the answers to my spring cleaning resolutions. Of course it won't have escaped many people's notice that The White Company do beautiful bed linen and stock exactly the kind of thing I'm after. My favourite has to be the Devon Seersucker duvet - I fancy it wouldn't be out of place in a lovely cottage by the sea, with scrubbed floor boards, Barbours over breton tops and a dash of Emma Bridegwater crockery here and there... (nor in my much simpler, less Boden-esque catalogue abode in Richmond!).

In a perfect world I'd pair it with this beautiful 1920s-19430s welsh quilt from Velvet Ribbon.

I'VE GOT MY NEW SHOES ON

Zara top, Topshop skinny jeans, Isabel Marant boots, Essie 'Exposure' polish

Well, this month I made rather a big purchase, it has to be said. Despite my smug face, I sadly cannot pretend such splurges are de rigueur in my life - one day, one day! I had seen the Isabel Marant 'Dicker' boots (I know, I didn't choose the name) on Net-a-Porter whilst I was on holiday in Spain, and I knew that they would sell out in the click of a stacked heel. And sure enough they did!

I trawled the internet searching for said boots and at last came across them in Australia at The New Guard in Adelaide (http://www.thenewguard.com.au/).

The lovely sales people shipped them over, dealt with my every panicking question about customs charges and VAT (suffice to say, belatedly, I found out these charges were extortionate and will NEVER be doing this kind of thing again) and solved my every whimpering post-discovery-of-charges questions. Their patience could not be surpassed!

But all's well that ends with a pair of Isabel Marant boots. Taupe suede, with a perfectly walkable heel (this from a girl who carries a change of shoes to work) and somehow they do just go with everything as everyone promised, Dead Fleurette included!

I shall be wearing them to death in Parisian-esque simple outfits day in day out.

KATE BOSWORTH

After seeing these two pictures of Kate Bosworth, I am resigned to re-focus my efforts on more minimalist dressing. She does it so incredibly, inspiringly well:

I also have two other aims... A PS11 and Isabel Marant Dicker boots. Will Net-A-Porter get the boots back in stock?! If not I've tracked down a pair in Australia.

As for the PS11? That will have to wait until funds allow! I have finally accepted that the Mulberry Alexa is not for me. I bought it after my Shimmy bit the dust and as Mulberry couldn't repair it they gave me vouchers to replace the bag. This was during the height of Alexa-gate and, I admit, caught up in the excitement and the thrill of securing one from only the second delivery, I bought one. It wasn't one of those considered, saved for and lusted after purchases that leads to a bag for life. And, with aforementioned funds being as they are, it seems silly not to sell it on to a deserving home via eBay. If all goes to my optimistic plan, the extra dollar made from the sale will go towards this little beaut. One day.

OFF ON HOLIDAY

Just starting to pack for a trip to Spain early on Friday morning. Off to work and then straight to Gatwick to stay over in a no doubt rather basic hotel close to the airport in preparation for the dawn flight!

Being a Winter Sun break (can you tell I've been enjoying saying that little phrase to people?) I have yet to really add into my summer wardrobe from last year so I'll be taking along my trusty Zara denim shorts, a selection of basic tees from Topshop and Reiss, stripey tops from APC, Petit Bateau and H&M and jeans and khaki skinny trousers from Topshop too. Basics and repetitions aside, there are a few new bits and pieces that will be seeing the Spanish sun - my glittery Anya Hindmarch clutch for the evenings, a lovely Topshop silk kimono jacket and, best of all, two new swimming costumes from... Topshop again.

Last summer the cut of the costumes didn't really work for me - despite being short waisted (a family blight no less) I found their swim suits were just too short in the body, hitching embarrassingly high at the front and deriere and arrestingly low at the front. But this time round they are perfect and I was overjoyed to pick up this floral number and polka dot offering on a recent trip of Sir Green's empire. They've got cut outs at the back which add that edge that one misses when not wearing a bikini. And how perfect is the pink lining?!

I am rather a big fan of Rachel Bilson's everyday style. (It was she no less who is to blame for my past purchase of a certain (much loved) 3.1 Phillip Lim Edie Bow Bag.)

It is off the red carpet, on trips to the supermarket, a cafe or filling up her car with gas that she provides style inspiration by the bucket load.

I can spend almost an evening looking for that elusive styling secret hidden somewhere in the simplicity of her outfits. Sometimes I think I find it in a subtle but luxe element. She is known for her bag choices - a dose of Chanel, 3.1 Phillip Lim or Isabel Marant and sometimes labeless, hard to track down beauties (remember the little bottle green bag?) or a well cut jean (Citizens of Humanity's Avedons) or her ever near Wayfarers. But I am never quite sure.

I found this picture over the bank holiday weekend of Rachel at LAX (good lord I feel I'm beginning to sound frightfully stalker-ish - seemingly tracking her every move at airports and gas stations across the globe.)

The jumper and jeans are entirely about comfort, finished off with some wedged tan ankle boots for a little added height - but even these do not give the outfit a dressed up look, they just look comfortably right.

It is the jumper that speaks to me most though, the turned up cuffs are my favourite touch. The cream chunky knit is a Gerard Darel number, and none other than the iconic 'Marilyn' style. It could be yours or mine for a mere £135. Lovely with jeans a la Miss Bilson, or leather skinnies.

A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS

Alas 2010 is over! I am not one for New Years Eve, Christmas is much more my time of year! So I thought I'd share a few of my favourite things from the festive period.

A lovely glittery clutch that I have had my eye on for some time now, a beautiful pea pod bracelet, some much needed Nigella and a crisp and delicious new perfume for the year ahead. I'm hideously fickle when it comes to perfume, but I've discovered Christmas is the best time of year for me to welcome a new one in to the fold - it becomes the scent of a lovely time of year and then a fresh start for the year ahead!

Olivia Palermo - what a gal. She has a way with clothes like no other. Between you and I, I'm convinced a good deal of her styling success is down to her confessed ownership of a clothes steamer. She looks so wonderfully primped and pressed at all times! (Not to self - buy steamer when I move flat and can locate a cubby hole to store it in).

The reason I love this look is the flats Miss Palermo is sporting. Yes their Lanvin (naturalment) and not any old run down Reeboks circa '95, but they are flats none the less. And whenever Olivia rocks flats, I sit up and take note.

Sadly the Toe Cap Leather Sneakers Olivia is pounding the mean streets of the City in have sold out on Net-A-Porter, but these Kurt Geiger Luckys are a steal in comparison, and in the sale now!

At the moment I'm coveting this ring by Daisy Knights:

I have a near mild obsession with seeking out whisper thin, subtle yet special, gold jewellery. This was sparked by a minuscule star strung bracelet I tracked down for my 20th birthday and have worn near-daily since. Then came Victorian charms from Annina Vogel on a gold necklace after seeing her inexhaustible collection featured in Vogue's secret address book. And a pair of Alex Monroe clover earrings last winter brings us up to date. It is a small collection I'll give you that, but these are treasured items, and the only jewellery I wear, save for a few bejewelled bib necklaces when a grey jumper or stripes are in need of bling.

I've often worried skulls look a little bit morbid when they're used to adorn everything from a somewhat ubiquitous scarf, clutch clasp, and particularly when brazenly emblazoned and studded and blown up to three times the normal size on a Thomas Wylde bag... I'm just not at ease with it. But, when made out of soft, nubby looking gold - in a tiny earring or necklace - I find myself warming to the idea. These little gold skulls would peep out when hair is carelessly tucked behind an ear, or wink up at me from upon my finger as I leaf through a mountain of papers at work. These pieces are little treasures - and ones I hope to add to my collection soon.

Just back from a few days in France - it was lovely, very windy, a little bit grey for most of the time, but incredibly sunny on the last day so all was not lost.

On a lunch time stroll around H&M I happened upon this little beauty... What's this I thought? Missoni for H&M? Negative. A bemused shopper put their Missoni cover up back on an H&M hanger? No such luck. Turns out it is part of the Fashion Against Aids at H&M - which landed in selected stores recently.

I'm quietly smug about my new purchase - my smugness crept into my photo booth images I must admit! For 7.99 I consider it quite the steal :)

I always end up stroking the Missoni playsuits in Terminal 5 - thinking, knowing, they'd top my holiday look off if only I could scrape together enough coppers. The dream of the Missoni playsuit is still alive, but until my ship comes in I shall very much enjoy this worthy homage to the masters of the colourful knit. I'm faking it 'til I make it.

Dreaming of Packing My Bags

Despite the moaning I went in for in my last post, previously unforeseen circumstances have led to a total 180 turn in my seasonal feelings. Work has given me time off at the end of May and I'm off to France avec the boyfriend's family who have a lovely house there. Within a few hours of hearing the news tickets and a swimming costume were bought!I went into Topshop after work on the hunt for an actual swim suit instead of the usual bikini. Since going to University and moving to London my exercise regime has suffered. Well, not only

suffered but positively shriveled and died from being left out in the cold for so long. Hence I am not about to show off my newly acquired tummy off to the French in a bikini. It is nothing a bit of exercise won't rid of, and I'm probably being a little OTT about it all, but for now I plan to be all about the swim suit. And so I picked up this beautiful little number in Topshop on Friday evening and I love it - it's so flattering and pretty thanks to some clever ruching and delicate florals. I fancy it'll look mighty decorative on a sun lounger with some 50s-esque shades on courtesy of Tom Ford.

So with this in mind I have picked out my other must have summer pieces. My approach to Summer dressing is so different to the way I operate in the Winter. I plan out each piece carefully, attempting to assemble what can only be described as a capsule wardrobe. I think this is because I find Summer dressing so much harder - I need limited, fail safe options, otherwise I know I'll make outrageous mistakes - mistakes that will haunt me as they stare out from multiple holiday photos. My inspiration this summer is without a doubt, the beautiful Kate Bosworth, and every aspect of her flawless wardrobe. Hence my need for some Tom Ford Cary's and the Mulberry Mini Messenger to punctuate my Summer style. Add this to oodles of white cotton broderie anglaise blouses and oversized jersey and I'm (hopefully) away!

Now I just need to locate said cotton tops, black patent gladiators, nude ballet flats and statement scarf. Phew - quite the challenge.

Hanging On To Winter..

I have to be honest - I am a winter baby and thus, a winter dresser. I have ridiculously pale skin, it takes on a bluish hue at times, and there is no way I could maintain enough dedication to fake tan to make a healthier shade look convincing. I long to have a festival inspired look - all tousled hair and sun kissed skin all mixed in with an air of Bridget Bardot nonchalance... but sadly I'm far too straight laced.

Summer came and went recently in London, loitering for but a week or two. I found myself peering out at the sunny day- anxiously, hesitantly, leaving behind my coat, and stepping outside surrounded by an air of worry on my way to work. Was it really time to let go of my now trusty leoaprd print coat?? Was I being just a little bit mad?!

As it happens, no. It went bitterly cold again a few days later and my faux friend was back out for a trip to the Junction for brunch, teamed with my wool APC jumper, Topshop jeans and Converses. I could barely contain my excitement. I find the layers of winter just a lot easier - the coats, the jumpers the shearling lined shoes!! I'm already longing for next winter and all the Burberry-esque aviator jackets that are sure to catch my eye.

Bad news is the sun seems to be back. (I know it's good news really, it just means I have to get planning my summer wardrobe fast, ready for the big reveal!) The little Mulberry from my last post is still a big contender, mixed with lovely crisp white cotton blouses (Zara?), Reiss's lovely new sunglasses, denim shorts, Topshop kimono jackets and breton stripes. Quite possibly even a statement scarf to replace the statement coat too? Hmm... Erdem florals would do quite nicely.

Kate Bosworth At Coachella

Having spied some brilliant Coachella pictures over on the Alice Through The Looking Glass Blog (see Alice's post here), I have in a matter of nano-seconds become obsessed with Kate Bosworth's easy summer style. That lace top, those denim shorts, those boots!! Between you and I, I strongly suspect I am already the owner of those little ankle boots - I fancy they are a Maje pair, which have been my trusty companions for Autumn and Winter. I'm overjoyed to see they work beautifully with summer clothes too and

I'm looking forward to trying them out with shorts when the weather permits me to do so. (Some Londonders seem to believe this time has already come - I'm not so sure?! Perhaps I'm just not brave enough!)

The pictures have also set the wheels in motion for some pay day musings - I love Kate's Mulberry Denim Mini Messenger - the perfect little summer bag with it's scalloped edges and delicate proportions.

Just tried on my new Zara shorts I purchased yesterday for a snip at 19.99! They called to me from the rail. I think they have rather a 3.1 Phillip Lim air to them, and that can only be a good thing don't you think? I'm off to take them on their first outing now for wedding wine tasting and no doubt some vegetarian fair to accompany it with the boyf and his brother and soon to be wife!

It is nigh on official - Rebecca Taylor holds the key to every pretty wardrobe conundrum I find myself faced with. Beautifully delicate wispy of floral dress? Check. Denim jackets that don't stary into scary biker territory for those who really couldn't pull of such a look (me.)? Check. By adding feminine but cool touches to every piece she has - the peppering of polka dots on the denim jacket and the wonderfully fitted arms are what did it for me - Rebecca Taylor creates clothes that scream Spring and I wish I could buy them all.

I first noticed that this might be a label I'd want to explore when slavishly reading Olivia Palermo's daily diary on Vogue.co.uk at the moment. After shedding a tear or two over the incredible way she puts her outfits together, be they made up of Zara, Topshop, sequinned Converses (where can I find these?!) or Hermes and YSL, everything looks so perfect.

Now my name sake owns quite a lot of Rebecca Taylor, and I don't blame her.

I'd love to have the above outfit tucked away in tissue paper ready to wear to the wedding next Saturday! Alas a little self control must be practiced and unless my numbers come up I shall be wearing a similar (let me dream) floral yellow layered dress from Oasis.

It is the accessories that are giving me sleepless nights - I am currently jacketless which is a must for the service itself! It's looking like it'll be a little cropped black number from Topshop. It goes well, but here's the thing... does wearing black to a wedding end up whispering 'I disapprove of this union' on my behalf?! I do hope not. It is a worry.

A Weekend of Domesticity

There's a scene in Sex & The City when Carrie is describing a New Yorker's Saturday, flowers and Kiehl's brown bag in hand - this conjures up the perfect image of the kind of weekend I love.
And oh how I do love weekends. There is nothing quite like a Saturday and Sunday spent out and about and at home, eating eggs Benedict and blueberry pancakes for brunch at Brew 'down the Junction', visiting Portobello Market, pottering around finding various bits and bobs for the flat, buying flowers, the Sunday Times, a new nail varnish or two (this week Lilacism by Essie) and procuring a little chicken all ready for roasting.

I normally avoid central London at the weekends - taking the tube to and from Oxford Circus in an over stuffed carriage full of angry people every weekday can put a girl off - but I was in desperate need of a hair cut - my fringe passed my eyes weeks ago...

After fitting in a haircut at Daniel Hersheson on Saturday I happened across Anthropologie on Regent Street. I've been meaning to explore America's latest export for ages but never seem to be on the right side of said street. I didn't go a bundle on the clothes, but was so excited by the beautiful home section. The bowls little and large, mugs, cups, saucers and pots are exactly what I've been dreaming of. It has become my life's mission to recreate Nigella's kitchen - all those fairy lights bowls that look like they were happened upon in a far away Moroccan market, perfect for that easily whipped up dip or deceptively complex salad.

They also have a great selection of books, coffee table appropriate, and lovely recipe books. I think I might return mid-week to recapture that weekend feeling and buy a book or two.

The bowls and cups will have to wait until we have a kitchen with more than one functioning cupboard and a landlady who moves at a slightly less glacial pace...
In the meantime I plan to practice my domestic godess-icity with a lovely Sunday roast, Hugh's (FW naturallment) rhubarb with orange and honey and The Time Traveller's Wife.

Meryl Streep - a firm favourite since The Bridges of Madison County - is brilliant, and in my eyes, still a winner!

To mark this fact, the boyfriend and I shall be raising our glasses with a high pitched 'bon appetit!' whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Wedding Guest Pondering..

A lovely wedding invitation landed with a thud (it contained both invite and wedding list and directions!) on the mat yesterday.

On the 1st of May my boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend will be tying the knot!

The wedding and reception are

presenting various style hurdles which I shall need to hop delicately over. Firstly, it is in May - not entirely sure what the weather tends to do

at this time of year, and it could be a little on the chillsome side.

Secondly, the reception is being held on a boat on the Thames - should I plan an outfit that works well with deck shoes? Or hope the stabilisers on the boat will be better than those on the ferries over to France that I remember from childhood?

As well as the amazing Stella McCartney Spring Linen-Blend Dress above, here are some other current options filling my head:

A beautiful Cherry Blossom Silk dress by Marc by Marc Jacobs is the front runner, but

in a world where money was no object I would opt for anything floral from Erdem - Ideally this Floral Print Silk Satin Dress.

I'm sure they'd all look tip top with a reflective orange life jacket!

These tick all the boxes I seem to have assembled for Spring/Summer wedding

guest outfits. Quietly beautiful, demure, ceremony and reception appropriate - oh they're just lovely. Extra points go to the Stella McCartney dress for working with or without tights, weather dependent!

Am also looking forward to Topshop and Whistles' Spring Summer dress offerings - but whichever dress is chosen, I think I'll team the winning number with ankle boots to add a little something to what I hope will be a charming little dress and an equally charming day!

Hello Lover... The 3.1 Phillip Lim Edie Bow Bag

I have a rather awful confession to make. The ink on the receipt of my new oak Alexa is barely dry, and already I am lusting after the attention of a new suitor - 3.1 Phillip Lim's Edie Bow Bag. I know it is hideous behaviour and I should be utterly ashamed!!

But I can justify this - a) it is black and the Alexa I have is Oak and b) it is bloody sold out so I can only lust and that is as far as it goes.

I long to wear it with everything just like Rachel Bilson - a shining example of why this beautiful bag is at the very top of my very long 'must have this very instant' list.

Wind and Rain Can Be Such A Pain

The weather outside remains, at best, a hideous joke. Rain pelted down in London today and it didn't seem to stop for a second. (Yes, yes at least it's not snowing).

The wind and rain is playing havoc with my oh so delicate skin (it isn't really, I'm just being precious and wanted desperately to test out a product I've been very keen on trying)

Step forward Mac's Care Blends Essential Oil - Sweet Orange + Lavender.

It already sounds like it fits the bill, falling under Mac's 'Warm & Cosy' section. The heating in the flat takes hours to crank up - but who cares when such a product promises this and more?

I couldn't wait to get home, wash my face and add a few drops to my moisturiser and quench my thirsty skin (I'm sure it's thirsty.. isn't it?).

It smells so delicious - like the best whiff of a Terry's Chocolate Orange. The oil can be used like this added to facial and body moisturisers to amp up their effects, used alone after cleansing for a mini facial (as recommended over on the Vogue blog) or to add a lovely dewiness under everyday make up, which I plan to try on the morrow!

A horribly rainy Sunday made for a lovely read of The Sunday Times Style magazine indoors - the best part came when I clocked a pair of Topshop Clogs that I actually rather liked. Have I gone mad? Up until now this whole Clog affair left me rather cold, but the Topshop offering captures more than an air of Chanel with the addition of a sling-back sort of strap for instantly increased wearability.

The rest of the day was spent soup making - thank you Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall for a rather natty Butternut Squash & Chilli recipe - and painting my nails (take note: Essie Mink Muffs, a wonderous substitue for Particuliere if your local Chanel counter has been ransacked).
